No class meeting

October 9, 2005 - Pray and Rejoice
Writing from prison with his life on the line, Pauls final encouragement to the community in Philippi is, Rejoice in the Lord always! God offers to transform the shallow satisfaction of earthly celebration into the authentic joy of life in God. Each moment in our lives is filled with the invitation to know Gods great gift of love.

October 16, 2005 - You're the Message
God has accompanied us as Gods people since the beginning of our journey. Yet, like our ancestors in Israel or Thessalonica, we must continually choose God over idolsthat would seek our allegiance. Conversion is not once in a lifetime, but a new-every-day commitment to serve only the God who rescues us.

October 23, 2005 - Embraced

Paul: hard-edged to some, yet a tender nurse. Moses: a servant, knowing God face-to-face. Our neighbor: one to love with all our heart, soul, and mind. Ourselves: embraced by the arms of a passionate, loving God.

October 30, 2005 - God's Word at Work
Many wordstell us what to think and how to live. It can be challenging to sift through all the voices that clamor for our attention. Yet, if we listen prayerfully, we will be able to know which of these are truly Gods word, yearning to be at work in our hearts and lives.

November 6, 2005 - Quest for Hope
Questions. They break open existing certainties to reveal new possibilities. They test limits of knowledge to allow a fuller understanding of our lives in community and with God. They challenge those in authority by raising doubts about conventional wisdom. They lead us on the quest for authentic hope.

November 13, 2005 - Alive in Christ
We do not know how our lives will unfold. Rather than be anxious because of unanswered questions about the future, we live fully with Christ now. Because we have this hope, we can wait for clarity as we live and work toward Gods reign. We can trust completely in God our peace, our security, and our salvation.

November 20, 2005 - Whatever You Do
Gods loving concern is for all of creation, and especially for those who are vulnerable, weak and oppressed. Gods tender care is at work through Christ and through us, as we find Christ in one another.

November 27, 2005 - Watch, Wait Hope
[No Class meeting?]

Isaiah calls for God to come and break through to Gods people. Marks community longed for an end to suffering and uncertainty. In these texts we encounter our God, who is approachable, yet whose power overshadows all. This advent season, we also watch, wait and hope for Gods power and presence among us.

December 4, 2005 - Comfort, Strength, Promise

Into a world of fading flowers and withering grass, the words of biblical preachers and prophets proclaim Gods promise of a patient and faithful relationship with us. We can hope and trust in God to see us through times of change, strengthening and comforting us on the way.

December 11, 2005 - Rejoice
This Sunday is traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday, from a Latin word meaning "dare to rejoice." In the texts for this week we encounter the good news of God's reign to those who suffer or mourn. We are called to rejoice in God's faithfulness, living with joy and participating in God's reign through acts of faithful living.

December 18, 2005 -God's Purpose Revealed
The lectionary texts for today announce that God gives birth to grace, hope new possibilities, and salvation for everyone. On this Fourth Sunday of Advent, we are invited to wonder about God's purpose, even as we hope and trust that this purpose is unfolding in our lives.
